Give It Up! (take it back)
we say we long for something real
to affect how we deal
with all this confusion that we feel
to clear the mire for clarity
but between us there's no disparity
it's not a contest of popularity
just say something meaningful, substantial
magnify and enhance for all
the conversation towards relevance
bring forth truth in evidence
not just the distraction of frivolity
but sustain a voice of another quality
most we pursue tends towards desultory
but despair and its result worry
is not relieved by the empty air
no matter the fancy or the flair
art needs the visionary and profound
but the trivial and superficial has us bound
to only servitude of the pass time
to chain art to this is surely crime
and we're doing this time in our mind
while the generations fall behind
it don't mean art should be humorless
no, just prioritize address, redress
jest has its place even in the serious
there's no doubt it's not mysterious
often not the domain of the imperious
but elevate it if you will
towards something better to fulfill
a priority above superficial
for vision to give meaning
inspiring minds towards intervening
in the current trend towards dumbing down
cuz da shit piles hirer we're gonna drown
you say I'm an idealist and a dreamer
yet if we had one of those for every schemer
we could elevate our plight on earth
to a new age and rebirth
so if your inspiration is in the write
lend heart and mind fight the good fight
